The Rudolf Bonnet Foundation Netherlands was founded in 1980, two years after the death of Rudolf Bonnet, in 1978. The Dutch artist Flip Hamers was the first chairman of the Rudolf Bonnet Foundation. Till 1983 his objective was to support Balinese artists financially, through selling Balinese artwork in the Netherlands, in exhibitions organised by the foundation. After 1983 interest of the Dutch public slowed down, as more and more Dutch people went to Bali themselves. With a new board the mission of the Rudolf Bonnet Foundation changed to direct support of Balinese art and artists through Museum Puri Lukisan. This support consists of museum training, especially conservation and collection management, and development of exhibitions, with an accompanying catalogue.
